A very entertaining read! Most of the stories serve to explain why even the author is surprised that he survived his younger years. You will laugh out loud, as well as shake your head in disbelief. This would be perfect for those nights when there isn't anything on television.
Steve married my cousin. The joke at a family reunion "I was relieved Steve couldn't come. After reading this book, my insurance company had turned me down for an extended liability policy.."
I bought this book because I am from the same area as the author. I was terribly disappointed and horrified at the stories told. It would be different, perhaps, if the characters in the book were better disguised, but they weren't. For instance, anyone from this area could quite quickly and easily recognize "Ron" and "Jay" as Don and Clay. The stories were so disrespectful and irreverent that I was shocked. It is like the author is bragging about all of the sinful and disgusting things he has done such as stealing, cheating people, damaging people's property, and one of the most disgusting of all episodes in the book is when the author describes driving the town's police car while the officer who should have been on patrol was actually having sex with underage girls somewhere in the countryside. In other words, committing statutory rape while the author made it look to the townspeople as if he was on the job patrolling and keeping them safe. There were numerous grammatical errors, no structure whatsoever to the book just lots of stories one after another with no logical transition, and lots and lots of things to make you shake your head about. I'm from a small town myself, but thank goodness I am from a small town where the older men didn't send kids out to steal from the stores of our friends and neighbors.
Great read! Truth is always stranger than fiction. Real life memories related in a way that kept my interest throughout the book. I makes me think - "If i only knew then what I know now".

It was a fun walk down memory lane when growing up in a small town. I read this book aloud with my husband. We laughed and recollected some of the same experiences growing up. However, reading about all the adventures and ACCIDENTS that Steve survived is amazing. His poor mama. ) It's an excellent book for young folks to read and see what work ethics and importance of family can mean.
